Good Posture is Good Health Dr. Stacey Scott
A vital priority in personal health, good posture supports proper balance for the body, alignment of the muscles, joints and ligaments and is essential to the normal functioning of the nervous system. Everything from an overall feeling of good health, to top athletic performance can be improved by good posture.
As years go by, poor posture can progressively limit range of motion, increase discomfort and pain, and interfere with healthy organ function. Good posture is a day-to-day activity with a lifetime of rewards. As such, it is vital that you make an effort to maintain healthy body alignment. The cumulative effects of bad posture can interfere with the mobility of your joints and muscles and impair the smooth operation of many of your body's systems, including lung capacity and nerve transmission, which can compromise your overall health.
Chiropractic care includes careful assessment of bodily imbalances and life routines and can address and correct many important aspects of alignment, especially of the spine and even your lifestyle choices, all of which can improve your health.
Helping Your Posture

How can you help your posture?
When standing, hold your head up, with your shoulders comfortably back and your stomach tucked in.
When sitting, use a chair with firm lower back support, keep your desk surface elbow high and get up and stretch periodically throughout the day. Station the computer screen 18 - 20 inches from your eyes and have the top line of the screen at eye level.
Along with important lifestyle changes to improve and support healthy posture, visit your Doctor of Chiropractic periodically for spinal checkups and care.
Considering a Treatment Plan
When considering a treatment plan keep in mind that you must take an active role. Intervention should include correcting the muscle imbalances while at the same time correcting biomechanical faults in the kinetic chain. I believe this is ideally accomplished through actively treating the involved muscle groups through utilizing active release therapy (www.activerelease.com), chiropractic manipulation and exercise.
